Automatic VS Manual Machine - Which is right for you?

Manual coffee machine - if you like the ritual of preparing your morning brew

If you're looking for traditional, cafe-quality espresso, look no further than a manual espresso machine.

What's involved?

Manual espresso machines require you to pack and pull your shot, monitor the espresso, and steam your milk, so it's not something you can walk away from. In saying that, it's not an especially long process and can be completed in just a few minutes.

If you're looking for the full setup, you may also need to look into purchasing a coffee grinder. Being able to freshly grind your coffee, and only grind what you need, is a huge benefit when it comes to perfecting your at-home brewing experience.

Manual machines are pretty low maintenance as well which is a huge benefit, although we do recommend having your machine serviced annually to ensure those parts that naturally wear out over time (o-rings, seals etc) are replaced and aren't going to cause issues down the track.

Automatic coffee machine - you want convenience served with your coffee

Let's be honest - not everyone wants to be a home barista, and we respect that. Some of us just want to press a button or two, ready your mug, and be on with the day. That is why automatic coffee machines exist, like the Jura machines, because sometimes we just need our caffeine hit, stat. Designed with convenience in mind, automatic machines are user-friendly and offer a range of specialty coffee on the menu - from espresso, milk-based drinks, and even cold brew.

What's involved?

Well, not much. The great thing about automatic machines is that they do it all - grind the beans fresh, brew the espresso, and steam the milk. Because automatic machines have a lot of moving parts so to speak, there is some cleaning and general maintenance that you need to keep on top of. However, even the cleaning cycles are automated, so aside from dropping in a cleaning tablet, the hard work is done for you.
