The Rocket Mozzafiato Cronometro Type V Coffee Machine for Commercial Quality At Home!

The Rocket Mozzafiato Cronometro Type V Coffee Machine is a manual home machine with features taken directly from Rocket’s commercial range for improved functionality and high-quality espresso.

The new Cronometro model includes all the features of the previous version as well as introduces a new digital shot timer. The timer fits seamlessly into the design of the espresso machine and allows the user to better optimise extraction time.

Temperature control is optimised through a PID controller drawing on 4 different signal parameters to ensure stability and optimum results in the cup. Also included are insulated boilers and the Rocket Espresso 9mm boiler end plates, which work together with the PID control for greater stability and temperature control.

The Mozzafiato Type V model uses a vibrational pump that ensures robust pump performance. The Type V model also features white steam and pump pressure gauges for extra style.

ECONOMY (ECO) MODE

Rocket coffee machines are now equipped with an Economy (ECO) Mode to ensure your machine is always at the ready. When ECO mode is activated, your Rocket coffee machine will automatically shut down after 90-minutes or 1.50-hours. To re-engage the heating element, just lift the brew lever and it will start right back up.

Rocket Mozzafiato Type V vs Rocket Giotto Type R

Both machines have a 2.9L water tank which we highly recommend the use of filtered water. Both the type R versions of each model give you the ability to plumb in your machines to a permanent water source and even attach a resin filter. The use of filtered water in your home machine will only aid in the prevention of build-up of limescale in your water tank & therefore prevent the need for descaling your machine.

On top you will find both machines have a cup warmer with a guard rail, however, on the Mozzafiatto the rail has been integrated into the side panel to pay homage to their commercial range of machines, whereas the Giotto’s rail is detachable.

Both machines have the traditional, stylish rotary dials with the beautiful ‘R’ markings. These control both your steam wand for milk frothing & hot water wand for your long blacks & pots of tea. One of my favourite features, they are completely cool to the touch. They are double-walled in design so there is no risk of burning yourself on them. That is music to Barista’s ears.

In between your dials you will see the traditional E61 Thermosyphon Group Head, this along with the P.I.D temperature control which I will show you in a moment gives you optimal temperature stability when brewing & extracting your shots. Ensuring that a consistent water temperature runs from the boiler, through the coffee every time.

Speaking of, both machines use a 1.8L copper insulated boiler which along with the internal Heat Exchange system, allows you to extract coffee shots at the same time that you are steaming your milk.

Coffee is extracted using lever operation and can be stopped midway to perform a pre-infusion before extraction begins. This results in a more well balanced & delicious tasting espresso. One of the exciting new features of these machines is the shot timer. Hidden from plain sight you will only notice the numbers appear just above your power switch here when the lever is activated. Being able to time your extractions gives you even more control over the consistency & quality of your espresso making. Once the extraction is finished the number will simply disappear.

Rocket Espresso is deeply rooted in classic Italian design, all machines being manufactured in Milano Italy. So it is very important for them to keep a classic & minimalist design. I believe this to be the reason that not only the shot timer but the P.I.D temperature control that we spoke about before are discretely placed, so as not to mix the traditional design with the more modern, digital features.

Hidden behind the drip tray is where you will locate the P.I.D. P.I.D is a temperature control unit which gives you the power to set the temperature of your boiler water. Using the chart in the instruction manual, you are able to set this temperature which will intern regulate the temperature of the water travelling through your group head.

Why would you want to do this? In a short answer, different coffee types or blends, perform better under different temperatures. Therefore by utilising this amazing tool, you become even more in control of your coffee extraction. If this sounds like too much for you, it can be left at its factory setting and still produce beautiful tasting coffee.

Both machines have two pressure gauges or manometers visible on the front. One regulating your bar pressure of your group head and the other of your boiler.  The only difference between the two machines that you will notice is that the gauges on the Giotto Evo Type R are black whereas on the Mozzafiato Type V they are white. This is true of all the Type R and Type V machines. All gauges have a helpful guide on them, in that the ideal place for each of them to sit at, while in use, is marked in green.

Another new edition to these machines is that they will now go into ECO mode after 90 minutes of burning turned on. So if you rush out of the house and forget to turn it off, Rocket have thought about that and got it covered. You will know that has gone into ECO mode if your power green light begins to flash. You may also be aware that this light flashes if your water tank has run low, so make sure you check that also.

Moving downward, both machines have magnets integrated into the drip trays to aid with stability. Now you will notice a height difference between these two machines. Your Giotto design comes standard with taller feet, giving you extra space underneath your machine. This can be adjusted to match the same height as the Mozzafiato if space is an issue.

To wrap up, I wanted to take you through what will come included with your machine. You have your double spout portafilter handle with double basket fitted that we have already been using, but the machine also comes with a single spout portafilter handle with a single basket fitted. You also get included a blind filter for the all-important cleaning of your group head. I personally like to fit my blind basket to my single spout portafilter as I don’t use that one as often, and that way it is ready for cleaning when I need it.

To assist in this all-important cleaning you will also find the ECO machine cleaning tablets & group head brush. The manual is included in both booklet form and on a USB if that is more your style. Lastly, included in your purchase is an Aluminium Tamp and for those of you in the know, that is a great deal, long gone are the days of the plastic tamp people.

Unfortunately, the beautiful grinder that has been assisting me today is not included with either of these machines but if you click the link in the description you can find out a lot more about Rocket Faustino Grinder which has digital time dosing and is super quiet. The perfect pairing to either of these two brilliant machines, how could you resist.
