Moccamaster Thermal 1.25L Coffee Brewer by Technivorm - Perfect Coffeemaker for Elegance, Sustainability & Delicious Pour-Over Style Coffee!

The Moccamaster Thermal 1.25L Coffee Brewer by Technivorm, a manufacturer based in the Netherlands, is an automatic coffeemaker that features a pour-over brewing chamber and 1.25L thermos carafe that comes with a mixing lid and travel lid.

The Moccamaster Thermal is made with BPA-free plastic and high-grade, plus parts are designed to be easily removed and replaced to ensure the reliability of the Moccamaster for years to come.

The Thermal has a simple and modular design that is user-friendly: simply fill the water container, add your filter and coffee to the brewing chamber and start. The machine will pull the water from the container into the 9-hole spray head to wet the coffee and coffee filters through to the thermos carafe which will keep your coffee fresh and hot for longer.

Using your new Moccamaster

The thermal Moccamster is an automatic coffee brewer, that produces delicious pour-over style coffee both quickly and easily. At Crema, we always recommend using filtered water with your Moccamster. This reduces the build-up of limescale and therefore aids in the longevity of your machine. Technivorm provides a whopping 5-year warranty on this product.

The Moccamaster begins the brewing with that simple flick of the single switch. Drawing the water through the nine-hole stainless-steel showerhead, creating optimum water dispersion over your ground coffee and therefore a more even and full-bodied extraction. A great bonus is the ability to be able to easily remove that showerhead and that's perfect for cleaning, and not all brewers out there do offer that.

Before reaching the showerhead, the water is heated and controlled by the high-quality copper boiling element. It's certified by the Specialty Coffee Association and the Moccamaster heats to a perfect brewing temperature of between 92 degrees and 96 degrees Celsius, and then it maintains that throughout the entire brew and this ensures the highest quality but also a maximum flavor in the extraction.

Moving over to the cone filter basket, it's been fitted with a cone paper filter, number four to be precise, but there are more permanent options out there if you would rather that. We recommend pre-wetting your paper filter before adding your coffee, so as to wash away any residual paper fibers but also to help stick your filter to the basket.

The coffee we’re using today is the first release for 2020 from our own Crema"s Trekker Single Origin coffee bean subscription. Which will be delicious, as single origins by nature are fantastic for alternate brewing styles such as this, due to their really clean but also their rich flavor notes, but you can click the link in the description below to learn more about the many flexible subscriptions that we have at Crema.

For this particular batch, we have added 65 grams of a medium to coarse grind. In the manual, you may find it recommends a slightly different recipe but coffee is a matter of personal taste and preference.

You'll notice at the bottom of the brew basket you have a valve switch, which has three options. You have fully open, half-open and closed.

Depending on the size of your batch will depict whether you have it fully or half open. Now we’re doing fully open for this size but for a 2 to 5 cup batch you probably want to look at putting it on half, and by doing this it slows down the water flow, in those smaller batches, and therefore ensures that the coffee grounds are not flooded by the water. Which could result in that under extraction of your brew? Closed is on offer for anyone wanting to stop the water flow mid brewing. The reason you may want to do this is if you want to sneak a cup before it finishes the brewing but it's also convenient for when the brewing is finished and you need to remove the basket for cleaning. As a side note on cleaning, just a good hot soapy wash is all that's needed for the brew basket.

Moving down to the thermal carafe, which is built to retain the heat of your coffee for long periods of time. Perfect for an office or a busy home, where people are coming and going throughout the morning but they still want to have a hot cup of coffee on hand.

The carafe has two different types of lids, a brewing lid, and a transport lid. The brewing lid has what's described as a mixing tube attached. This is to ensure a homogeneous brew but you can also pour coffee without having to open the lid. However, if you're wanting that maximum heat retention, you can use the transport lid. You just have to make sure you unscrew to pour out the coffee. We come back full circle to just flicking on the power switch and that's how you get it started. Now, I went into the very specifics of this brewer but at its core, it is very user friendly and it's a classic coffee brewer. No longer than five to six minutes and we have our delicious hot batch of brewed coffee.

A fantastic brewer, it just simply depends on your aesthetic personal preference as to which one you choose.
