Guatemalan Disaster Victims In Need

Guatemalan Disaster Relief

Marta Dalton of Coffee Bird in the UK manages a quality focused 6th generation coffee family, farming, exporting and importing in Guatemala. Following the devastation by the volcanic eruption, the family is reaching out to the wider coffee community to help raise much needed funds.

Statement from the GoFundMe page below:

“Calling on coffee lovers and our coffee community around the world to help the victims of the Volcan de Fuego’s eruption.

On Sunday 3 June 2018 Guatemala experienced its most violent volcanic eruption in over 100 years when the Volcan de Fuego erupted.

Currently over 1 million people have been affected. The death toll rises daily, with hundreds of people injured, and thousands of people displaced or missing.

Many areas affected are communities who rely solely on the coffee industry for their livelihood, with uncertainty surrounding the repercussions post harvest.  We believe we must pool all our resources to enable these communities to circumvent the burden of potential losses in order to focus on rebuilding for the future

Funds are needed immediately, and every little bit helps so please do not hesitate to donate.

1. Grievance expenses for our friends/colleagues at the Santa Clara Dry Mill, Bella Carmona and Bella Vista farms in Antigua, Guatemala.   Many have been impacted and we want to help them grieve their losses. This will go towards rebuilding their homes on new land.

2. Burnt Children Foundation of Guatemala - the road to recovery from life-changing burns will be long, and we want to support the children affected. For more information, click here: fundaquemgt.org

100% of the funds received will be used to help the victims as we have outlined above.  We will provide full transparency of use of monies, and provide regular updates on how your donations have helped the people of Guatemala.”
