THE COFFEE BEANS

Coffee beans grown on Auromar SA include Tekesic (also spelt ‘Tekisic’), a high quality varietal, at altitudes of approximately 1,650m above sea level.

Tekesic is an offshoot of Bourbon and produces an exceptional flavour profile, with layered acidity and a distinctly soft mouthfeel. The sweetness of this coffee is intense, leaning towards flavours like caramel, apricot and panela.

The Panama Auromer Tekesic single origin coffee works exceptionally well as an espresso, black coffee, Chemex, Pour Over and Cold Drip.

Tasting Notes: Well balanced with juicy acidity, rounded body with floral and fruity characteristics of stone fruit, caramel, panela and cocoa.

Panama Auromar

 

LOCATION

Sereno River, also known as Sereno, is a corregimiento and head city of the district of Renacimiento in the province of Chiriquí , Republic of Panama. It is a rural region on the border of Costa Rica where traditional and gourmet coffee is produced.

THE FARM

Auromar S.A. has been engaged in the production of high-end rare quality SHB coffee since 2006, including Geisha coffee and high quality Tekesic coffee. Tekesic is derived from Bourbon, and is a dwarf cultivar that produces exceptional quality.

The coffee is grown in a semi-shaded environment, provided by endemic trees, and at high altitudes. All Auromar coffees are processed by Café de Eleta S.A., a state of the art coffee plant and mill which includes a modern laboratory for cupping and hand selection of the best coffees/

Auromar has a strong commitment to the environment and its workers, most of whom come from vulnerable ethnic backgrounds who lack material and social resources. Auromar provides them with facilities and educational opportunities, as well as modern and hygienic housing. The workers benefit greatly from the safety and efficiency infrastructure built into the plantation.

Robert Brenes was previously the director of the Panamanian stock exchange and ex-director of Panama’s Central Bank. He was also an active member of the National Civic Crusade, who challenged the dictatorship of General Noriega and, as a result, spent a few years in exile.

Auromar is a child labour free farm that includes 31 hectares, 16 of which is pristine highland rainforest, with a strong commitment to sustainability and the environment. They aim to preserve the maximum flora and fauna of the farm.

BEAN PROCESSING

The Panama Auromer Tekesic single origin is processed with a fully washed process. All the coffee is processed/milled at a place called Auromar by Café de Eleta, a state of the art coffee plant mill which includes a modern lab for cupping and hand selection of the best coffees. One of the great things about Auromar is that most of the workers come from vulnerable ethnic backgrounds who lack material and social resources. This work environment provides them with facilities and educational opportunities.
