Papua New Guinea – Kindeng Mill

Region: Western Highlands, Jiwaka Province
Process: Natural
Variety: Arusha, Bourbon, Typica
Elevation: 1520–1770 MASL
Harvest: May–September

Origin
Sourced from the Kindeng Dry Mill in Papua New Guinea’s Western Highlands, this lot represents the collective work of approximately 1,500 smallholder farmers from the Kindeng and Arufa municipalities. Grown at elevations ranging from 1,520 to 1,770 MASL, the coffee cherries are cultivated on small farms averaging 1–2 hectares in size, where rich volcanic soils and cool, mountainous conditions create ideal growing conditions.

Processing
Once harvested, cherries are delivered to the Kindeng Mill where they undergo natural processing. They are meticulously dried on raised beds and canvasses over the course of a month, turned regularly to ensure even drying and optimal moisture content. After drying, the coffee is hulled, milled, and stored in a cool warehouse before export.

About This Lot
This is a community select lot—a blend of high-quality day lots curated in collaboration with Café Imports. These lots offer elevated flavour profiles and traceability, born from the collaboration of smallholder farmers working together to showcase the best of their region.

Tasting Notes
Pineapple, caramelised papaya, melon, milk chocolate
A tropical and juicy cup with layers of bright fruit sweetness balanced by a smooth, creamy chocolate finish.

Why We Love It
Papua New Guinea’s Western Highlands is a region with deep coffee heritage. With dramatic landscapes, shaded farms, and multigenerational producers, it’s no surprise coffees from this area—like those from the Waghi Valley—are gaining a reputation for their complexity and depth. This natural lot from Kindeng Mill is a shining example of the region’s potential.
