It's important to keep up with regular cleaning and maintenance of your coffee machine to ensure they remain your most reliable co-worker. That's why we recommend promptly completing any cleaning requests from your machine and keeping the cleaning products on hand.
Descaling tablets, general cleaning tablets, and water filters will be necessary, but you will not need to use them as frequently since the machine will request them when needed.
1. WHAT'S THE BEST COFFEE FOR MY MACHINE?
IS CREMA COFFEE ORGANIC?
Yes. Our Montezuma blend is organic coffee. Available for purchase online or in store in 1kg, 500g and 250g bags.
SHOULD I STORE MY COFFEE IN THE FRIDGE/FREEZER?
Short answer: No. Please no.
Long Answer: If you have whole beans at home that you are not going to use for quite some time (months or longer) and you really don’t want to waste them, then okay… store them in your freezer. Just make sure that when you use them again, only defrost the amount you’re using and use it straight away. However, in terms of a general storing method for everyday use, we do not recommend storing in your fridge or freezer. This is known as wet storage and basically what happens is the beans soak up every bit of moisture they can, quickly losing flavour and integrity.
CAN I CHANGE THE TEMPERATURE OF THE MILK BEING DISPENSED BY MY MACHINE?
The Jura GIGA does not have the function of changing the milk temperature. We suggest pre-heating the cup with hot water before making the beverage. This will help reduce the change of heat when the beverage hits the cup.
WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE OF COFFEE BEANS?
There are a number of factors that age beans and grind. Essentially you have anywhere between 4-6 weeks after roasting for whole beans and up to 3 weeks from the roast date for ground coffee, because it will stale quicker once ground. You will still be able to use your beans or grind outside of these time frames, but it’s a basic guideline for getting the best flavours out of your brew.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD THE WATER FILTER BE CHANGED?
Once your Jura Giga has requested for the filter to be changed you will have up to 10 Litres to swap the filter and confirm its change with the machine before it will enter descale mode. Your GIGA uses the Jura Claris Pro Smart Maxi. Watch this video to see how.
How frequently you need to change the filter is dependent on your water hardness. Below are some estimates:
- 1-10° dH: up to 300L
- 11-12° dH: up to 240L
- 13-15° dH: up to 180L
- 16-20° dH: up to 120L
- 21-25° dH: up to 95L
- 26-30° dH: up to 80L
HOW OFTEN SHOULD THE MACHINE BE CLEANED?
While the milk system needs to be cleaned regularly, your GIGA will prompt you to complete a cleaning cycle every 180 cups or 80 switch-on rinses. To do so, you'll need these Jura 3 Phase Cleaning Tablets. Watch this video to see how.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD THE MACHINE BE DE-SCALED?
The machine will prompt you when this is needed - If you are using a filter this should only be 1-2 times per year. If you do not use the filter the descale frequency will be determined by your water hardness. To do so, you'll need these Jura 3 Phase De-scaling Tablets. Watch this video to see how.
